INITIAL INTERVIEW
This is a phone conversation and/or initial meeting in the client's home or a nearby coffee shop.
Basically, this time is for us to meet, see if we are compatible and for us to ask questions to learn more about each other. This is an important meeting and learning about the woman's past experiences will help me better understand how I may need to support her during labor.
BASIC OVERVIEW:
AFTER I AM HIRED
I thank you for choosing me to be a part of your labor support team!
BASIC OVERVIEW
AT "GO" TIME :)
Once contacted by my clients that labor has begun (yay!), I prepare myself to join them.
BASIC OVERVIEW
________________________________________________________________________________
Ultimately, the partner and doula, together with the medical caregivers,
are the perfect support team for the laboring mother.
Doulas are there in a hands on, eyes and ears wide open role.
________________________________________________________________
The main role of the labor doula is to offer physical, emotional and informational support to women and their partners before, during labor and immediately postpartum. Labor doulas offer non-medical support. A labor doulas job is to help empower and encourage women in labor to make their own decisions and to advocate for themselves. Labor doulas encourage open, respectful communication between their clients and their client's care providers.
_________________________________________________________________
What labor doulas will NOT do:
Assess/treat any medical condition you have.
Offer any medical advice.
Make any decisions for you.

BASIC OVERVIEW:
- Q&A to get better acquainted
- I will recommend to potential clients that they should interview with a few different doulas, to get a feel for who they are the most compatible with. It is an important choice to make and clients should be 100% comfortable with this choice!
- I will leave my contract and ask potential clients to read it and if they want to hire me, to please fill out/sign the contract and return it with required payment by a specific date.
AFTER I AM HIRED
I thank you for choosing me to be a part of your labor support team!
BASIC OVERVIEW
- I recommend meeting with clients at least two times prior to labor in order to get better acquainted and create a rapport. This is a perfect time to demonstrate different comfort measures, to discuss desired birth plan, discuss concerns and how we will work together once labor has begun. If the client does not have a birth plan(s), we can discuss different options at that time. I also can accompany clients to their OB appointments to meet their care provider, if desired
- I reassure my clients that I do not REPLACE the partner, but rather, I encourage their partners to support the laboring mother. The partner provides love, support and a connection that the labor doula can never provide, as they know the mother intimately.
- We would discuss the basics as far as when to contact me once labor has started and at what point I would join them once labor has started.
- As per the contract, I would be on call and would be readily available to my clients via phone, text and email to offer support and resources.
AT "GO" TIME :)
Once contacted by my clients that labor has begun (yay!), I prepare myself to join them.
BASIC OVERVIEW
- I would meet clients either at home, birthing center or hospital once they are in active labor and feels that they need me.
- I may offer suggestions to the partner and loved ones in order for them to participate at their, and the laboring woman's comfort level.
- I help facilitate room (home/hospital) atmosphere (low lights, music, aromatherapy, etc.
- Support to laboring mama in positional changes in order to help alleviate pain/keep hips open to bring baby down
- Massage and use counter pressure to alleviate pain.
- I encourage open, respectful communication between clients and their care providers.
- I can take pictures for any families that want this done- if they have not hired a birth photographer.
